A HackSpace (or Maker-Space) is a shared workshop and social club. Somewhere to come work on your own projects, learn (or try and teach) some new skills or just talk geeky
More over, we are growing as an community. By coming together we can afford better toys and space to house them*, but more importantly, there’s peiple around who are willing to explain and teach how to use these things (and many other skills too).
And we have a nice tuckshop, so there’s no excuse 😉
We are a friendly and approachable group** who try not to take ourselves or our ideas too seriously. We’re made up of a pretty diverse range of people and skills and are always looking to meet new and interesting people***. Oh, and please don’t be put off by the term Hacker****.
* I don’t have space for a pillar drill or lathe at home and can’t afford a cupboard full of arduinos and bits to plug into them.
** We really are, even if I would class myself as somewhat socially retarded… the other’s are lovely though 😉
*** Even if you wouldn’t class yourself as interesting or don’t think you’re upto it or wouldn’t know what to talk about; there’s nearly always something odd going on and a great way to start conversations is “go on, you’re doing what?” as you watch someone wire up a coke can. -that and if it’s really so bad, you never have to come back =-P
**** “Wait a second. I’m a Hacker, which means I enjoy playful cleverness -that’s what it means to be a Hacker.
Now you may be thinking of people who break security; I call them crackers“. -Dr Richard Stallman
